DREAMS TO REMEMBER

I am often asked the same question.

“Where do the ideas for your stories come from?”

Even if I tell you, the likely response will be disbelief.

“Why?”

Because most people can’t remember their dreams. Even if they have a dream that would make a good story, they can’t remember it long enough to write it down. That is not so for me. I have different dreams every night and I remember them …  even long enough for the next night’s dream to be a continuation of the previous one. Such was the case for Maids of Merr.

In fact, that is the origin of many of the other books you can find on my web site. Did I mention that my home web site is www.lone-writer.com. If a visitor clicks on one of the many books found on that web site, that person will immediately find themselves on Amazon where the book can be sampled or purchased. Each one is available as an eBook or can be ordered as a hard copy. Amazon lets the visitor read the first few chapters of an eBook without purchasing anything. If that visitor is interested in seeing how my dream ended … Opps … I meant how the story ends … they will need to spend a few dollars.

Maids of Merr began a few years ago on a quiet night with the fan being the only sound in the room. I frequently have a fan running. The sound of it calms me. On that night, my dream changed the sound of the fan to the sound of ocean waves.

I don’t know much about the ocean. I’ve only been a few times in my life. Normally, I get no farther than the beach but on one occasion, I rented one of those things called a Sea-Doo personal watercraft. Wow that was fun. At the time I was in the Bahamas. . I’ve only been to three places outside the U.S.A. in my life.

I went inside Canada frequently when I was working as a motorhome transporter. I went to the Mexico border a few times for no good reason at all.

But the trip to the Bahamas was a unique journey. First of all, the computer company where I worked, paid my way after I achieved a goal that was supposed to be impossible to do. The only thing I liked about going there was that ride into the ocean on the Sea-Doo. Wow! That was fun. I ripped through the waves until I was so far out, I couldn’t see land any longer. That’s when the thought occurred to me that I had no idea how much gas the thing had in it or how long it would run on whatever gas it had. So, I turned the thing around and went west until I could see landfall again.

Sorry, I got distracted thinking about the Sea-Doo. Let’s get back to the dream. The sound of the ocean was replaced for the sounds of pirates killing and raping everyone in a same harbor-town. That was the beginning of the story for Maids of Merr. Of course, I embellished the dream when I put the story in the computer. That dream came to me night after night always picking up where the previous night ended. Of course, I added a lot to the story that was not in the dream but the dream is where it all began.

As I said, several of the books I wrote began with dreams. Others just came out of an active imagination.
